MAUNGARAKI SCHOOL 2021

Maungaraki School —

Wide range of opportunities

2020 was a challenging year. A year in which we were so grateful for your incredible support. We were proud to be a part of the special Maungaraki Community and extremely proud of the way the children dealt with the changing nature of the year.

This year at Maungaraki School we are really excited about the wide range of opportunities we are able to offer our learners. We have an amazing teaching team who genuinely care about the growth and success of our young people. Our teaching professionals have been empowered by the Board to develop engaging, inclusive and diverse programs, designed to suit the unique needs of each child within their classes.

In 2021 we have been able to keep our class sizes down. This will allow our teachers to do their best work as they develop positive relationships with students and families. Smaller class sizes will also enable teachers to provide more effective group teaching to students.

Alongside small class sizes we are providing even more enrichment programmes across the school. Each syndicate will have enrichment groups operating which are focussed on meeting the specific needs of students. These groups will cover a wide range of topics and stages and will be delivered by trained staff. The aim of these enrichment programmes will be to provide focussed teaching to support the work that occurs within the classroom.

We are also very pleased to be able to offer specific programmes in the areas of Wellbeing and Sports. Our Wellbeing focus which was so successful in the difficult year we had last year will continue in 2021. In Term 1 we are privileged to be working with Heather Dodge again. Heather will be working alongside staff and students to help develop strategies and tools to support them.

Our Sports Academy will be working with Sports Analytic as they progress through the year. Through a range of tests and activities they will be looking at sports which suit their specific skill set. We are excited about what new doors this may open for our students and sports this may introduce to our school and students.

Student connections across the school will also be a large focus this year. We will be organising House Days each term and classes will be participating in regular buddy activities across the school. Our Leadership Academy will also provide our senior students with an excellent opportunity to grow themselves culminating in a trip to the National Young Leaders Day. We are also planning a major production for Term 3, these are always exciting and should be a great event for the whole school community.

Alongside all of this we are in the second year of embedding our Heart Values across the school. This year will see the Board and school reach out to the community to look at ways in which we can further develop these values.

We are really excited for 2021 and hopeful we can have an uninterrupted year. If you have any questions about our programmes for 2021 or would like to come in and talk about something please do pop in or make an appointment.
