PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Shane Robinson —

Welcome back!

Kia ora e te whānau,

Welcome into 2022 at Maungaraki School. It has certainly been a different start to our school year with the new requirements around alert level red. Despite all of this change it was wonderful to see the children flowing through the gates with huge smiles and and just itching to get back into school. We have really enjoyed catching up with them and hearing all about their summer adventures. Thank you for your support as a community - we do really appreciate it.

A special welcome to all of our new families to Maungaraki School, it is great to have you joining us. We would also like to welcome our new staff, this year joining us we have Sam Blandford - room 3, Jo Fox - room 4, Jenna Reddy- room 15 and Hayley Saxton - room 15. Welcome to Maungaraki - we hope you love your time here on the Hill.

The summer holidays in New Zealand provide us all with a much needed opportunity to enjoy time together and celebrate our very special place in the world. I hope that you had a chance to spend quality time with friends and family as well as see some of our wonderful country. I spent my time with my family soaking up the hot sun on the beach, we really were spoilt with the amount of sunshine and heat we enjoyed!

We have had one exciting change to the school over the holidays, the construction of our new flying fox on the bottom field has begun. This will be a sensational addition to our playground. Set against the views of the Wellington harbour this flying fox will make you feel like you are really on top of the world. Unfortunately as with so many projects at the moment here has been a slight delay. We are awaiting the delivery of some safety materials which are stuck in transit. These should be with us by the end of February and the Flying Fox will be open shortly after. We can not wait for you all to have a turn on our newest addition and will keep you updated.

Please remember at red setting we are asking parents & caregivers to drop their children at the various school gates. Staff will be at these gates to support any children who need extra support or help getting to their rooms. Children from Year 5 up should be wearing masks inside classrooms. If you do have an exemption please inform Shane Robinson principal@maungaraki.school.nz or your child’s class teacher.

If you have any questions or would like to speak to a staff member please do call and make an appointment.
