Cross Country this term

SWIMMING

Unfortunately we are unable to run our School Swimming programme this term due to the restrictions level 2 placed on Huia Pool.  We have enquired about getting a booking later in the year and are waiting to see if this is possible.

CROSS COUNTRY

Kia ora koutou, we are really excited to let you know that our whole school Cross Country is coming up on Tuesday June 30th, with a postponement date of Thursday 2nd July. Things will kick off at approximately 9:20am and finish up around 11am. The morning will be run very much like last year with the race starting and finishing on the field and the races will mainly take place within the school grounds, with our Year 7 & 8s heading up and down Barberry Grove.

We are looking for some parent help to run this awesome event, so if you'd be keen to assist us with this, we'd really appreciate it! You'd be stationed on the course so you would see your child in action too. Please contact Alle Pollard-Smith if you are available by emailing alle.pollard@maungaraki.school.nz.

As we will be at Level 1 for this event, all parents are welcome to attend and cheer on the students! There will be a signposted parents zone with a great view of the finishing shoot, and we'd ask that all spectators stay in this area to allow space or the runners and staff.  We look forward to seeing you there!

STUDENTS VS STAFF - BASKETBALL

Last week the Staff versus Year 8 sports competition was kicked off with basketball. It was a torrid battle with the Year 8's bringing plenty of skill but struggled to get past a determined defence. Down the other end of the court Mr Robinson and Miss Cherry were nailing the three pointers and with Miss Ross pulling in some great rebounds, they helped the teachers pull away. In the end, despite the best efforts of the Year 8's, the height advantage paid off for the teachers, who eventually ran out winners 35-19 and kept the Sutherland trophy in the office for another year.

STUDENTS VS STAFF - FOOTBALL

On Tuesday the Year 8s and the teachers battled it out on the football field with the Greaney Pampalone Cup up for grabs. With the teachers having taken out the basketball match the week before, the students were out for redemption. Slick passing, speed, and fitness proved the ultimate difference and the students took out the match 1-0. There was controversy late in the game with the referee interceding in play and creating an attacking opportunity for the teachers, which Mr C finished beautifully. This took the game to penalties, and what a shoot out it was! Ultimately though, the students played the better football and it was unanimously decided that they were in fact the deserving winners, 1-0! Well done to everyone who played, thank you to the coaches and referee, and to the supporters cheering on the sideline. Next up - touch rugby!
