Maungaraki School —

For the week ending 9 March 2018

SWEATSHIRTS

We now have Maungaraki School Sweatshirts for sale. They are available from the school office for $45 each, or for an extra $10 have your name screen printed on the back.

Great for winter sports and cold days at school, they look fantastic. T-shirts are also available for $20 each.

PAID UNION MEETINGS

Primary school teachers and principals are attending paid union meetings in March to discuss their collective bargaining goals. Maungaraki School Teachers will be meeting on the 20th and 21st March in the afternoon. School will remain open but parents are able to pick up children at 1:00pm on these days if they would like to. Please sign your child out at the office.  Thank you for your support.

ATTENDANCE

The Ministry of Education collects data on students who attend less than 90% of the time. They regard children attending less than 90% as not attending school regularly. We are also concerned if children have more than 5 absences per term. New Zealand studies show that children who do not attend regularly have lower reading levels and lower achievement in Year 11 NCEA Level 1.

If children are really sick, please keep them home and contact the office to advise them of the reason. Otherwise we want to see children at school every day, even when it is raining or they feel a little tired. Please plan holidays for term breaks wherever possible.

CROSSING & DRIVEWAY

If you are dropping your kids off before 8:30am there will be no road patrol on. We have noticed members of the public not stopping for these kids so please take care.

Also be careful on the school driveway. It is closed off while the patrol is on in the morning and afternoons, however children should still walk on the footpath in case it is open.

NEW PARENTS EVENING

We have introductory presentations to inform new and prospective parents about the Junior School programs run at Maungaraki School. Followed by a chance to ask questions and talk to the teachers. These are being held at 6:00pm on:

Term 1 -Tuesday 13th March
Term 2 – Tuesday 4th June
Term 3- Tuesday 4th September
Term 4 - Tuesday 27th November

Please contact the school office on 5697205 if you would like to attend.

SCHOOL SWIMMING SPORTS

Our year 3 students will now be included in the School Swimming Sports on Friday 16th March at Huia pool.  They were to attend the Junior Swimming Fiesta at the end of April.  Year 3 students will take part in their own swimming event in the Learn to Swim pool.

LOSS FOR MAUNGARAKI AFTER SCHOOL CARE

It is with great sadness that we advise of the death of Kate Cropp, one of the Maungaraki After School care workers.  Our thoughts are with her family at this sad time.
