SPORT

Maungaraki School —

Sports Academy

On the Monday before lockdown our Maungaraki Sports Academy took part in a Give it a Go Day as part of their 2021 programme. Back in Term 1 the students took part in an assessment day, looking at the underlying fundamental skills of physical activity (balance, flexibility, power, etc). This data was collated by Sport Analytik and from the data, various sports and sporting disciplines were suggested for each student. These sports were ones that their personal fundamental strengths would lend themselves to and that the students may not have thought to try before. Alongside tracking their progress in improving their chosen fundamental skill, the members of the Academy have been trying out a range of new and perhaps unfamiliar sports.

Today we were lucky enough to have Shuka Sola, former Samoan Olympian in shotput, come in and help us become more skilled in the throwing Athletics disciplines. We also had a go at floorball, which was hugely popular.

It was an incredibly fun day and the students learned a great deal. Thanks so much to Chris and Dean of Start Sport New Zealand, and Shaka Sola of Solapower Throwing Academy for an awesome day!

BASKETBALL

We are awaiting Basketball Hutt Valley to let us know how, or if they will operate games under Level 2 restrictions.  We will let you know once we have more information.

ZONE SWIMMING EVENTS

Unfortunately our Southwest Zone swimming event was to be held during lockdown.  We were hoping that this could get rescheduled however due to the limitations Level 2 this won't be possible.

For those who did pay for the bus to the South West Zone swimming event we will make contact with you regarding a refund.

TOUCH RUGBY

Signmee notices for Term 4 Touch Rugby will be coming home soon.  We hope to keep teams largely the same as they were in Term 1.
