Term 2

Kia ora o te whānau,

We are really looking forward to getting back into the swing of things here at Maungaraki School - each team has planned some exciting activities for your children over the coming term. With the change to the Orange Alert level setting we are really hopeful for a less restrictive term.

At Orange, face masks are no longer required at school. However, public health advice is that masks continue to be encouraged when indoors. Wearing a mask is a key health measure that slows the spread of COVID-19 in indoor settings.

For that reason, we encourage visitors to the school, parents and whānau to wear a mask whenever they are indoors on school grounds, however masks are not required. Any student or staff member who wishes to wear a mask at Orange will be supported to do so.

A few of the other changes that we are able to implement this term as we move to Orange include:

  • The school grounds and office will be open. Parents will be able to drop off and pick up from outside the classrooms. For the next few weeks classrooms will remain closed, however the grounds and porches are open. We can not wait to see you all back on site!

  • Parent meetings will be face to face rather than over zoom. We will take the following precautions when meeting : distancing, ventilation (where possible), and mask use.

  • Break times will be combined going forward. Children will all have the same breaks. Break times are as follows :

Day Start - 8:55am

Morning Break - 10:30 - 10:50am

Lunch Break - 12:00 - 12:40pm

Afternoon Break - 1:40 - 2:00pm

  • Syndicate Assembly will be back in term 2 - School assembly is not back yet unfortunately.

Covid is still in our community, please continue to stay home if unwell and keep your children at home if they are unwell. Regular hand washing remains a priority. Soap will be available in all bathrooms and hand sanitizer is available for everyone to use. Adequate ventilation is also key, while the heating will be on at school this term please ensure your child has adequate clothing to stay warm throughout the day.

If you have questions around please do come and see me or send me an email.
