PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Maungaraki School —

Our students have been representing the school well

Kia ora e te whānau,

Tangata akona ki te kainga ki te marae, tau ana.
A person who is taught at home will stand with confidence in the community.

We have had a horrible week of weather and I would like to congratulate our students’ flexibility with their play spaces this week.  We are all hopeful that Spring will bring some nice weather to dry out our field.

Last Saturday our community and staff came together in the sunshine for our annual working bee.  This event, which was organised by Mrs Sutherland, Mrs Andis and the Enviro team, was a huge success.  Nearly a hundred people gathered down at school to help out in a wide range of ways.  From gardening, to painting, to making things, to cleaning... so many jobs were completed.  This type of community support is something that makes our school such a special place to be. We simply could not do it without you - thank you.  I would also like to thank The Professionals and Chrissy Kibblewhite for providing the troops with kai during the day.

Our students have been busy representing the school in a wide range of activities in the past week.  We sent a team to the South West Zone Swimming event and they were placed second overall as a school, a really fantastic result.  Our Mathswell teams travelled to Wainuiomata last week and finished in the top ten schools in Lower Hutt, very respectable work team.  We have also had our senior students being judged in the NIWA science fair.  These results are not yet in and will be shared in the next newsletter.

One element that is key to each of these events is the way our students represented themselves and the school.  They were polite, competitive and respectful.  I was extremely proud of them this week as I received many comments on how well our students conducted themselves at each of these events.  Well done team Maungaraki!

Please stay warm and healthy out there.  There are some nasty bugs around with Wellington and Lower Hutt being hit particularly hard.  If your children are sick, please keep them at home until they are well.

Until next time, be your best.
