PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Maungaraki School —

Welcome to 2021

I would like to welcome you all into 2021 at Maungaraki School, and what a great start to the year we have had. Children have been flowing through the gates with huge smiles and and just itching to get back into the swing of things. It has been great to touch base with them and see just what an exciting break they had.

Welcome to all of our new families to Maungaraki School, it is great to have you joining us. We would also like to welcome our new staff, this year we have Ben Glue joining us in Room 9 and Cheryl Knapp joining us in Room 8. We also have Mandy Viles, Jayne Chatfield and Tania Tyrer joining our teaching team as release teachers. Welcome to Maungaraki - we hope you love your time here on the Hill.

The summer holidays in New Zealand provided us with a privileged opportunity to enjoy time together and celebrate our very special place in the world. I hope that you had a chance to spend quality time with friends and family as well as see some of our wonderful country. I spent my time with my family soaking up the hot sun of the far north, it was just what I needed after 2020.

We have had some exciting changes to the school over the holidays. Our playground has seen some major changes. The courts in front of Room 16 & Room 15 received some upgrades to add a motor skills circuit for our children. They have been hopping, skipping and sidestepping their way around this happily for the past week. We also installed a brand new adventure playground behind Room 10. This is a large playground which includes swings, slides, climbing walls and so much more. This has been extremely popular, we think it's a playground with the best view in Wellington.

We are expecting a visit from the Education Review Office (ERO) in term 1. ERO have been adapting the way they review schools and we will be one of the first schools to take part in the new process. This will see us working more collaboratively with ERO to create an area of focus as we review the operation and management of Maungaraki School. We look forward to working with them.

We have a great opportunity for you to find out more about our school on Wednesday the 24th February. This will be an exciting year for Maungaraki School with the further development of its new values and charter that was created alongside the community, staff and students last year. During this evening we will be talking about the School Values and looking at how Maungaraki School will be structured and operate in 2021. There will be a chance to meet staff and talk with your child's teacher as well as explore their classrooms and the school grounds. It will be an excellent chance to ask questions and come in and share about you wonderful children. It would be fantastic to see you there.
