Maungaraki School —

Term 3

ENVIRO GROUP SOUP

Our Enviro group have started to make soup on Friday morning before school in the Waihanga Room. We are lucky to have our Community Garden, and we harvest silverbeet, parsley and leeks to add to our vegetable soup. We even use a stockpot that we got on the Maungaraki Free and Preloved Facebook Group! As the Enviro group is across the school, this is a great opportunity for our older students to share how to chop and slice vegetables, and then clean up. These are all skills that they have been practicing during the cooking component in the weekly Waihanga sessions in class.

We then get together at afternoon tea to eat our soup. Hopefully as the weather gets nice we will be able to plant other vegetables to use in our soups, and use our Wednesday sessions to keep the Community garden weeded and tidy.

HUTTFEST

Hutt Fest is fast approaching, it will fall in week 10 of this term. Our Kapa Haka group have been practising hard, and their performance is looking great! As soon as we have dates locked in for our rehearsal and performance, a Signmee notice will come out; keep an eye on your emails.

In the meantime all tamariki should have a practise book. If you can encourage them to be practising at home that would be awesome! It could be a tricky part of the actions, pukana in the mirror, or singing for confidence. The more they do, the more they will shine on stage. We can’t wait to see it all come together!

2023 STRUCTURE

We are starting to plan our school structure for 2023. To help us with this process, if you, or someone you know has a child who is due to start at Maungaraki school in 2023, please ask them to enrol from the link on our website. Please also let us know if you won't be returning back to Maungaraki school in 2023.

COHORT ENTRY

At Maungaraki school we start our new entrants in cohorts or groups, on, or after they have turned 5. There are 2 entry points per term, one on the first day of the term and one at a mid point during the term, as set by the Ministry of Education. We hold 2 or 3 school visits per cohort prior to students starting school.  Please go to our website if you would like to know more about our cohort entry process.

LIBRARY BOOKS

We have had a number of our library books returned to either the Petone or Lower Hutt Community Libraries.  Before returning books, please double check they are being returned to the right place.

BOARD ELECTION VOTING

Voting closes at 4pm on Wednesday 7 September. Please drop your voting paper into the post box in the office lobby or the main post box at the gate.

RED NOSE DAY

Thank you for your generous support of Red Nose day. We managed to fundraise just over $441 which we will credit on to Cure Kids.
