NGĀ KAAKANO PUĀWAI WHĀNAU GROUP

Hazel Andis & Trish Cherry —

We will hold Matariki day on the 15th June

Kia ora whānau!

The ngā Kaakano whānau group met earlier this term and discussed some of the things happening around te ao māori in our school.

We have a few events coming up in the next few terms. The first being Matariki Day on the 15th of June. We will be rotating around the school within our house groups learning about Matariki through a range of activities.

The next is 'Te wiki o te reo Māori', which will be from the 10th - 16th of September. We will also be having a Kapa Haka sharing celebration with Normandale and Korokoro schools in Term 4, more details about this closer to the time.

As a staff we have been focusing on our pronunciation, particularly our houses, syndicates and our school name. Keep an eye out on Facebook for upcoming videos on how best to pronounce these.

If you are keen to have a voice on how our school can best reflect te ao Māori, and some kai, come along to one of our meetings! We catch up at the start of each term, keep an eye out in the newsletter for dates.

Ngā mihi nui,

Hazel Andis and Trish Cherry.
