Maungaraki School —

Term 2

STEM

On Tuesday eight year 5/6 students represented the school at the Hutt Science STEM challenge. The competition has lots of general knowledge science questions and a hands-on building component. Koru Team 1 placed 3rd, and Koru Team 2 placed 6th out of 51 teams - a very strong result! Well done Adam, Daniel, Edmund, Harper, Laura, Luke, Molly, and Rose.

ENVIRO UPDATE

The Enviro team was lucky to have Emily Mossman from Predator Free Maungaraki in to demonstrate the Doc 200 trap. These traps are important for the trapping programme as they can catch the larger mustelids as well as rats. The Enviro team learnt about how to set the victor traps and how to keep their fingers safe. We had a demonstration of the Doc 200 trap and it was loud! Backyard trapping is important as it removes and reduces the amount of pests that prey on our native birds, lizards and their food sources. Our Enviro team has purchased some new T-Rex traps to use in our trap tunnels. Emily has added the new Predator Free Maungaraki logos to our tunnels, and reminders to keep fingers away from our traps!

Predator Free Maungaraki has trap tunnels available for $25, and can assist new members to set up their traps in their backyards, helping to keep our native birds, lizards and insects safe.If you are keen to set up your own traps, either contact Predator Free Maungaraki through Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/predatorfreemaungaraki, or by email pfmaungaraki@gmail.com

SCHOOL SWIMMING

We have school swimming coming up in weeks 9 and 10 of this term. Each child will have seven sessions on the follow days:

  • Week 9 - Monday 19 June - Thursday 22 June
  • Week 10 - Monday 26th June - Wednesday 28th June.

If you haven't already done so, please complete the swimming ability questionnaire sent out via Signmee as soon as you can. This will enable us to group students for the swimming lessons based on their ability level.

On Thursday 29 June students in years 4-8 will have the option of being involved in swimming sports. This will also allow children to qualify for the term 3 Interzone swimming event. A separate Signmee notice will come home regarding this.

SCHOOL PHOTOS

School photos will be available to review and purchase in around three weeks. We will send home your passcodes and details on how to access once the gallery is ready to view.
