Maungaraki School — October 9, 2023
End of October
Dear Whanau,
We are super excited to confirm that construction of our awesome new entrance and car park is kicking off soon!
The new entrance and car park is designed to keep kids and cars separate. As well as very significant safety improvements, this will make the entrance to the school and community precinct more accessible and easier for everyone.
While the outcome will be excellent for our school and community, there will be quite a bit of disruption over the next few months as you’d expect. So we wanted to ensure you’re updated about what to expect during this period.
Starting at the end of October, there will be no public vehicle access into the existing car park or the school or community premises. This restriction is necessary both due to the construction, and to ensure the safety of everyone in the construction zone.
Emergency access will be maintained throughout the construction period by the contractors on site. Our top priority is the safety of our school community and all necessary precautions will be taken to address potential risks.
Pedestrian access to the school will remain open and you’ll be able to access the school by either the main entrance on Dowse Drive or through the walkway on Barberry Grove.
The new carpark is not only beneficial to our school but also a great asset for the entire community. It will serve both our school and the community hall, providing improved access, drop-off, and parking facilities for everyone and far better access from Dowse Drive. The major benefit is separating the pedestrian and vehicle access to the school, creating a safer environment for our Tamariki.
Please be aware that there will be large vehicle movements in the vicinity during the construction works. This may have some temporary effects on vehicle movements in the area. We have been assured that traffic will be managed diligently to minimise disruptions as much as possible.
Let’s be honest – the construction is going to be annoying for everyone at times, not least of which our staff and students. But the end result is going to be awesome – it will greatly benefit our school and the wider community and we really do appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. The intention is that the project is complete before school starts in 2024.
We will keep you updated regularly on the progress of the construction project and any additional information that may arise. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to our school administration.
Thank you for your continued support as we work to enhance our school and community facilities for the benefit of Maungaraki, the best suburb in the Hutt!
We have attached a photo of the proposed carpark plan to show what it may look like when it is finished.
