Learning programmes

Dear Maungaraki whānau,

What a splendid return to school we have had over the past two weeks. The weather has been made up of brisk, sunny days and a surprising lack of wonderful Maungaraki wind. Our school has been filled with laughter, and the spirit of learning evident through each classroom.

At Maungaraki School we believe in rich learning programmes that foster curiosity and feed imagination. Inside classrooms children have been busy settling into new inquiries and new learning for the term. Outside of the classroom so far has seen visits to Space Place for the Tipu team and technology studies at Hutt Intermediate for our Ponga Team.

Alongside these opportunities it has been great to see our Waihanga centre operating over the last fortnight, This programme gives all learners an opportunity to work alongside experts in the science and technology domains on site. This has been an extremely popular programme with our learners, empowering them to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.

However, amidst our celebration of education at Maungaraki School, we have been confronted with disheartening news and negative talk around teaching in New Zealand. I would like to reinforce just how incredible our staff here at Maungaraki School are. They are constantly looking for the best ways to reach and teach children as they grow their own teaching skills. Often in the media we hear the worst case, fear based stories, I am very privileged to work alongside professionals who really make a difference. We have been extremely proud of our results as a school over the years, however they may be measured. Our students strive to display our HEART values, they have excellent attendance rates and achieve academically. More importantly, alongside your crucial role as parents, we work together to grow awesome humans.

We remain steadfast in our dedication to nurturing individuality, fostering creativity, and providing a dynamic learning environment that inspires every child to flourish at Maungaraki School.
