NEW CAR PARK & CROSSING

Maungaraki SchoolApril 11, 2024

Update

Below is an update from the Ministry of Education and Hutt City Council regarding the carpark and an upgrade to the crossing:

We wanted to give you a heads-up about some changes and safety measures happening around the new carpark project.

  • We will be adding some new traffic management along Dowse Drive while we install the new entrance for vehicles. This will mean fewer parking spots for awhile as the final aspects of the carpark are being completed.
  • The pedestrian pathways will be altered but will remain along Dowse Drive.
  • The speed limit will be lowered to 30km/h along this section of Dowse Drive (between the pedestrian crossing and Barberry Grove).

We know these changes may cause some inconvenience, and we really appreciate your patience and support as we work on improving facilities for the school and community. Our traffic management agency will be sending letters to the immediately affected neighbours with more details closer to the time.

Crossing improvements on Dowse Drive coming soon

The pedestrian crossing on Dowse Drive near Maungaraki School is set to become a raised crossing during the upcoming April school holidays, improving the safety of pedestrians (particularly tamariki) using the crossing.

Hutt City Council expects the work to be complete before the end of April 2024 (weather dependent). Traffic management will be in place to guide you through the site safely, however this may affect your travelling routine. There will be a partial closure of the traffic lanes with stop/go in place as well as reduced lane widths and reduced speed (30km/h) through the area.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we complete these necessary works to improve pedestrian safety in the in this area.
