Hands on learning at Maungaraki School.

The Waihanga Centre has been a hive of creativity and innovation this term! It's been fantastic to see both students and kaiako (teachers) fully immersed in creating incredible projects and delicious kai (food). Our Ponga team has been busy in the construction shed, bringing Bluetooth speakers to life, while Koru students have been designing and skillfully crafting their own padder tennis bats. Both of these hands-on projects have provided rich learning opportunities, allowing students to safely experiment with a variety of tools and materials, resulting in a truly fun and engaging experience!

Meanwhile, Kākano and Tipu have also been thriving in the Waihanga space. The aroma of their culinary adventures has often filled the air as they experimented with making and tasting hummus – which certainly sparked some interesting taste tests and discussions. They also thoroughly enjoyed getting creative with popcorn, trying out different flavour combinations. Beyond the kitchen, these younger learners have been tackling exciting coding and construction challenges using the ever-popular Lego, fostering their problem-solving skills and teamwork.
