Being cycle-safety at Maungaraki School
We are currently hosting Pedal Ready cycle skills programme here at Maungaraki School, and it has been a resounding success! Albeit a little wet. Our Year 6-8 ākonga (students) truly shone, demonstrating resilience, ngākau kaha (determination), and enthusiasm throughout the programme. Pedal Ready provided them with invaluable opportunities to develop essential cycling skills, boost their self-confidence, and significantly improve their awareness of road safety – all while enjoying themselves and getting active in our local environment.
Under the expert guidance of the Pedal Ready instructors, our students engaged in practical, hands-on learning, mastering key skills such as balance, bike control, and crucial on-road safety procedures. It was inspiring to see some students, who initially felt apprehensive, bravely confront their fears and embrace the challenges with true grit and determination.
A real highlight of the Pedal Ready experience was witnessing the growth in our students' confidence. While some started out feeling uncertain and perhaps a little wobbly, by the end of the programme, they had gained a newfound sense of independence and a genuine feeling of whakahī (pride) in their achievements.
