Maungaraki School — November 30, 2023
Paul Matthews
As the year draws to a close, we would like to take a moment to express our gratitude to an individual who has played a pivotal role in the growth and transformation of Maungaraki School. Board Chair Paul Matthews, whose dedication and efforts have left an indelible mark on Maungaraki School, will be stepping down after seven years of service. He is heading down south with his family, but we won't hold that against him.
Paul's commitment to the betterment of our kura has been extraordinary. His leadership has been instrumental in the realisation of numerous projects that have significantly enhanced our school's overall learning environment. From the development of five roll growth classrooms to the creation of a new library space, a sports multipurpose turf, sunshades around the school, and a top-quality bike track - Paul has had a key role in so much at our place. His vision and drive have propelled Maungaraki School to new heights.
Paul's passion for making our school an exceptional place for learning is evident in every initiative he undertakes. His drive to see positive changes has been a guiding force, and his commitment to excellence has set a high standard for all of us. Often found burning the midnight oil, Paul has tirelessly worked behind the scenes, talking to the right people, and never settling for anything less than greatness for Maungaraki School. I personally have appreciated Paul's support and encouragement and am very grateful to him for his role as a volunteer at our school.
Beyond the school gates, Paul has made a profound impact on our community. His active involvement in the Maungaraki Community Association, running the Maungaraki Rollers for the children in our community, and, of course, hosting the annual Ice Cream Party are just a few examples of his dedication to fostering a strong and connected community.
As Paul steps down from his role as Board Chair, we want to express our deepest appreciation for his vision, leadership, and the countless hours he has dedicated to the betterment of Maungaraki School. The positive changes he has brought about will continue to benefit generations of students to come.
A huge thank you also to the wider Matthews family. Lisa has been instrumental in so many school initiatives over the years. Lisa has been an active member of the Home & School committee, making huge contributions to our kura. She was also a core member in organising our incredible school Jubilee a few years ago. Recently Erin, Lisa and Robyn have all been active volunteers in our community library. Please join us in extending our warmest thanks to the whole Matthews family for their outstanding service to Maungaraki School and the wider community.
As the saying goes - No reira, kia kaha ra, be your best version - the Matthews have certainly shown the way with this.
