Matariki Hangi

Ryan Greenslade —

Please read below about an up coming Hangi and what you can do to help.

Kia ora Parents/Caregivers

This year at Mayfield School we are trying something new, to celebrate the upcoming Maori New Year called Matariki, which is in week 9.

The Agri-Education group thought it would be a good idea to make a Hangi for our school to enjoy together before the long weekend on Thursday the 27th of June.

With little experience in creating a Hangi, I would love to talk to anyone out there who has experience in creating a Hangi and possibly some tips and tricks to perfecting it. As well as anyone who might have Hangi baskets (steel baskets) , Hessian or Jute sacks or railway irons at home, that would be used to heat the food.

We are seeking help in any way possible to make this event happen. We are also on the hunt for some food donations. The Agri-Education class have written up a wish list of food to be served at the Hangi;

Lamb Roasts

Whole Chickens

Potatoes

Kumara

Pumkin

Yams

Bread (for stuffing)

Mixed Herbs

Onions

Butter

Please get in contact with me ryan@mayfieldschool.nz if you can help us with donations or supplies.

Thank you,

Ryan
