This week, Ruapuna Class enjoyed using the EPro8 kits to apply their problem solving skills.

Kate Moore —

The EPro8 Challenge is the inter-school science and engineering competition. Every year over 25,000 students from throughout New Zealand take part. Students participate in a series of events: firstly within their school and then inter-school. These events are designed to promote science, engineering and problem solving.

The students were given the option of three challenges to choose to complete. They were able to make a puppet show, a Kings throne and/or a buzzy bee.  The step-by-step instructions involve measurement, angles and use of different joining equipment. Pulleys, cranks, wheels and swivels can be used to make moving parts.

The children all were very focussed and loved having the opportunity to apply their practical skills to the task.
