Book Week 2024

Monday 26 August - Friday 30 August

As part of Book Week celebrations, we will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair in the Dental Clinic. The Book Fair will be open for families at the following times:

  • Monday to Friday: 8.30 am - 9.30 am

  • Tuesday and Thursday: 12.30 pm - 1.15 pm

  • Monday to Thursday: 3.00 pm - 4.00 pm

  • Please note that the fair will close at 9.30 am on Friday.

All books purchased during the fair will earn reward points for the school, which we can use to buy new books for our library. EFTPOS will be available for purchases.

In preparation for Book Week, the children will visit the fair with their classes the week before and may bring home a “wish list” of books they would like.

As part of the festivities, we will also have various competitions, guest readers, a dress-up day, and many other fun activities throughout the week.

Monday 26 August

  • Reading to our Pet Photo Competition will be on display

  • Guess which book was each staff members childhood favourite competition begins

  • The whole school will visit the Ashburton Library and have a special guest read to them

  • Read and Feed - teachers will have a book they are reading at 11 am on display in their window. During play time, children can take a look at each one and when the bell rings, they can choose which room they'd like to go to

  • Where's Wally? Children have to guess where Wally is each day.

  • Decorated Door: Teachers will decorate each classroom door, Maryn will decorate the office and Whaea Aroha will decorate the staffroom door with a book theme.

Tuesday 27 August

  • The Baxter children will share their aunty's book 'Moo Moo and Little Calf too' with each class. The Taylor children will share their grandmothers books about 'Jock' with each class.

  • Read and Feed

  • 11 am - wee interlude for Inter-school Speech Competition for Year 5 - 8 here in Westerfield

  • We will have mixed Class Buddy Reading

  • Drop In's: Children will have already invited grandparents/family friends/local people to come in to read to them

Wednesday 28 August

  • Each class will celebrate Book Week by doing some of the following fun activities - Make a book, Act out Stories, Make Dioramas etc etc

  • Read and Feed

  • Drop in's

Thursday 29 August

  • Come to school dressed up as a Book Character (not movie or tv)

  • Morning Parade (judged with prizes) Playcentre invited to see the parade

  • TPT and Playcentre having a Teddy Bears Picnic

  • Read and Feed

  • Bell Ring and Read: At any time during the day, everyone must drop and read as soon as they hear the bell intermittently ringing!

  • Drop in's

Friday 30 August

  • Daffodil Day (organised by Ruapuna). Children wear yellow and bring a gold coin for cancer

  • Bring a Book to share: Children bring a book from home to share with their fiends

  • Book Quiz: A fun quiz which the whole school will participate in

  • Book Fair closes

  • Ruapuna led Assembly

Book Week promises to be filled with loads of activities, lots of fun but most of all - the joy of reading! We can't wait to celebrate with everyone!
