Medbury is joining the movement on Pink Shirt Day, Friday 17 May (Week 2 of Term 2). We are encouraging our staff and students to Kōrero Mai, Kōrero Atu, Mauri Tū, Mauri Ora – Speak up, Stand Together, Stop Bullying!

Celebrated annually around the globe, Pink Shirt Day began in Canada in 2007 when two students took a stand against bullying after a new student was harassed for wearing pink to school. Pink Shirt Day works to reduce bullying by celebrating diversity in all its forms and supporting schools, workplaces and communities to be safe, supportive, welcoming and inclusive for everyone.

To celebrate inclusivity and to make a stand against bullying we will be holding a non-uniform day on Friday 17 May and we are asking students to wear an item of pink clothing - a shirt would be great but if you only have a pink scarf or a pink pair of socks then that will be just fine!

Teachers will have access to a range of resources which they can share with students including designing a t-shirt, colouring in, quizzes, Kindness certificates and Compliments posters. Pink Shirt Day is not just for schools - workplaces, clubs and community groups can join the movement too! You can learn more about Pink Shirt Day at: www.pinkshirtday.org.nz
