Raising the bar with cross-age peer mentoring.

Siobhan van der Werk —

Younger kids have always looked up to older kids. While adulthood may seem so far away, our Merrin senior students are providing our year 3 & 4 tamarki a standard to aim for in the short term.

Our Cross-age peer mentoring program has matched senior students with year 3 & 4 students for the purpose of guiding and supporting the younger tamariki during fun sporting activities.

These connections have generated manaakitanga throughout the school and it has provided the older students with leadership skills.

Riley Gee: "We played a game that the seniors made up. It was fun because it was a brand new".

Joshua Lee "It was quite good talking to the seniors and when we played, they changed up the games a lot".
