Rehua Marae

Kate MORGAN - March 1, 2018

All children in Years 1, 2, 3, 4, 7 and 8 will have the opportunity to visit Rehua marae. You are most welcome to come on the bus and join in a fun day with your children. Years 5 and 6 children will visit Tuahiwi next term. Visiting the marae is an important part of being a New Zealander and we are so excited that we are able to give every child this amazing experience. Thanks to all of our wonderful parent helpers for sharing in the experience. We are very appreciative of the time given to share this opportunity with our tamariki.

Nate and Joe (Year 1 )  Marae experience

We went on a double decker bus and we sat in the top. When we got to Rehua marae we waited at the big gate. We walked through the gate with cool patterns and Shar did the karanga to the lady who said "Haere mai" which means "Come in and we're glad to see you". Matua Steve talked in Māori and said that we were very happy and excited to be at Rehua Marae. We sang a lovely waiata and then we had a hongi to say "hi" and to share our breath.

We noticed the red and black patterns in the wharenui and they were beautiful. We made some Māori art and we made patterns. We also played games out on the big lawn outside. We played with our big buddies

We had such a great day that when we left the marae we were so tired that some people fell asleep on the bus!

We loved the Mummies and Daddies who came with us.
