StarSmart Day 2016

Hannah Minty —

StarSmart is a day for Merrin School to create awareness of sun protection and water safety for the Spring and Summer months.

Dear parents and whānau,

The Physical Activity Leaders (PALs) have been busy organising a StarSmart Day to be held on Friday, December 2nd.  StarSmart is a day for Merrin School to create awareness of sun protection and water safety for the Spring and Summer months.

We have recently been awarded certification towards being a SunSmart School. The SunSmart schools programme provides Cancer Society approved guidelines on how to make your school a safe place for students and the school community.

Attached is a timetable outlining Friday. At 11:30 we have Ruby from the Cancer Society and Tracey from NZ Swim Safety coming in to talk to the school about how we can keep ourselves safe in the sun and water. From 1:15 - 2:45pm students will have an opportunity to explore different water and summer based activities run by our Merrin PALs!

Children will need:

Togs

Clothes that can get wet (e.g. rash vest)

Towel

Sunscreen (This will be provided on the day)

School Sun Hat

Dry clothes

Kind regards,

Hannah Minty
