It was lovely to catch up with the Tinker boys at the recent 'City to Surf' run.

Lisa Dillon-Roberts —

I hope you all enjoyed the rare and welcomed Easter school break.  I was contacted by the Press over the break to ask if I felt Merrin parents were well informed about the holiday.  I was pleased to rattle off the list of newsletters, emails from teachers and the school calendar that we use to communicate with you.

On Thursday 14 April at 7pm the teams in Years 4-8 will be holding an evening called 'How we Learn'.  This evening was mentioned at the beginning of the year at our 'Learning Information Evening', whereby I spoke of an evening in which you could hear about the children's learning from them personally.

This will be a student led evening whereby the children will present to you, their parents, on how they learn in their Learning Pod.   We appreciate that the open plan teaching format is new to many families and we want you to be knowledgeable about your child's programme.

Thank you to the City Council who recently spent a fortnight supporting the traffic and parking issues we face everyday at Merrin.

The Council approached the school after they had 'a more than average volume of calls' about our school parking.  The majority of the issues are parking over driveways, spending longer than 3 minutes on the 3 minute parks and parking in both mall carparks while dropping off and picking up children.  Very recently, we had a traffic accident, whereby a member of the public was knocked from their bike due to a U-turn.  We remain very concerned about driver behaviour in and around our school and encourage you to report any dangerous driver behaviour you witness.

Hot on the heels of many of the staff completing the City to Surf,  Mātua Peri has us out Paddle Boarding this Saturday.  I'm sure that Lisa McWilliam and Shane Barr will be the stars on the day, given their days out Paddle Boarding with the Tuakana Whetū learners this week.

Kind regards

Lisa
