Term 2 Week 4

Nicky Hebberd —

We have had a busy week with the teachers out on Tuesday, My Friends Dot Com show on Thursday and Kelly Sports starting up today.

Kelly Sports

On a Friday, Kelly Sports will be coming in to work with the Year 4 children while the Y5-8 children are doing Winter Sport. This means that everyone needs to bring their sports uniform and sports shoes on a Friday from now on.

Ferrymead

Thank you to the parents that have offered to help for our trip to Ferrymead. We are limited in how many parents we can take with us, we will get in touch with those of you that were 'in first'.

Teacher Release

We have our second release day for the term. Below are the days we are out:

Monday - Miss Hebberd

Wednesday - Miss Minty

Friday - Ms Gallagher

Our Learning

Reading - Continuing with our focus on comprehension across a range of texts. Keep reading at home with your child and ask them questions about the story.

Writing - We have been learning about what a good exposition looks like. We have been discussing topics and sharing whether we agree, disagree or are undecided. The focus is to back up their opinion with reasons and facts.

We are continuing to write expositions in preparation for writing our speeches. Speech topics will be coming out soon.

Maths - Most children are continuing to develop their addition and subtraction strategies.  You can support their learning at home by doing addition and subtraction on IXL.

Miss Hebberd's Maths Groups are beginning to look at skip counting and the connection to multiplication. To support your child at home, they should be doing Counting and Number Patterns on IXL.

Big Idea - We have done some knowledge building on technology we use in our everyday lives. We are really excited to go to Ferrymead to find out more. You may like to strike up a family conversation around the dinner table about how technology has changed from when you were children to now.

Dance - Our dance unit is around Matariki and the children will eventually create their own dance routine to tell a story.

Digital Citizenship - We are spending the week getting everyones blogs set up so that children are able to share their learning with you more. We encourage them to write about learning that they are doing outside school as well. The blogs will be set up so that they don't come up in search results, and the only way for outsiders to access the blog will be to have the web address. This is great if you have friends or family that are not based in Christchurch, you can send them the link and they will be able to see the blog and even post comments and feedback. We will get more information out to you about this once we are up and running.

Have a great weekend.
