Term 2 Week 6

Tania Gallagher —

Next week is a short week due to Queen's Birthday on Monday. The school will be closed for this public holiday.

Reading

In reading we have been continuing to focus on prediction alongside other text based objectives. Within prediction, we have been learning that we need be very deliberate when we are making predictions during reading. We need to pause at the beginning of the text and make predictions not rush into reading. Predictions need to be justified with evidence both before and during the reading. Whilst predicting, it is expected that mistakes will be made and our predictions will change when we receive more evidence from the text. Readers need to continue to be prompted to do this until the strategy becomes embedded and they do it without any prompting.

Please ensure that your child regularly returns their books. It is okay to keep them over a few days however there are some cases where students are regularly forgetting their book bags and their books. If you have some of our reading books at home, please return them so other students can enjoy them.

Writing

Next week we are moving onto descriptive writing. We will begin by looking at how to 'show don't tell'. This is a technique to enable the reader to experience the story through action words, thoughts, senses and feelings, rather than through the author telling.

Maths

Ms Mansfield's class continue to work on multiplication and division facts.

Ms Gallagher's class has been working on division strategies. Next week we will move onto multiplication fact for our 2, 5 and 10 time tables.

Ms Hebberd's class are working on tally charts and picture graphs.

Please follow up this learning on IXL .
