Matariki Celebrations with Room 5

Tania Gallagher —

Today Waimakariri Whānau group from the Pataitai Pod visited Room 5 to make Rākau Sticks as part of our Matariki Celebrations.

First we paired up with a buddy and had to colour in our templates to make the Rākau. This was tricky as we could only colour with red and black pencils. Next we had to make the rākau by rolling up old magazines (we did have some wonderful parent helpers) and then putting our beautifully coloured page over top. Lastly we listened to the the song E papā Waiari where we learnt how to use the rākau sticks to beat in time to the music.

This was a wonderful morning and all the children thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
