Learning about maths through art
A small group of superstars investigated drawing shapes that have a perimeter of ten.
After inquiring into the multiple different ways to make ten, we explored drawing and measuring different geometric shapes with a perimeter of 10. There were many challenges! Using a ruler correctly, measuring accurately, getting the angles perfect so it became an actual shape with no gaps. Once we had measured, drawn and cut out our shapes we felt our art work did not yet look complete. We added groups of lines using our ruler. Of course the lines all had to total 10cm in length. Our work is now displayed in Room 12 in Mahuta Pod if you would like to learn how to do this yourself.
We became so excited about our results we wondered what a shape with a perimeter of 100 would look like. We needed a bigger meter ruler and the large whiteboard to work on.
