Korean Dance
Korean Dance is a dance group of girls from Years 6-8 from all different cultures, performing dances from Korea . Every Thursday morning, the girls get together and have a dance practice with Judy, who teaches the girls dances from her home country, Korea.
The most well known dances that are performed by the Korean Dance group are the Fan Dance and the Drum Dance. The Fan Dance is a graceful dance that consists of bright colourful fans, skill and lots of teamwork. The Drum Dance, on the other hand, is energetic, bright and fun. The Drum Dance is performed using small hand held drums which is held in the left hand, and a stick that is held in the right hand.
This year, the girls performed both their dances as guest performers at the 2015 Cultural Festival. As the performance was getting closer, the girls were practising endlessly each week, polishing and finishing off the dances. Last Sunday, the girls had their first rehearsal at the Horncastle Arena. They performed last night (3 September), along with the Senior Stars Kapa Haka.
Korean Dance is a great way to show Merrin School's cultural involvement, along with other dances, such as the Junior Stars Chinese Dance and the Indian Dance Group.
