Merrin School, a truly International School!

Mary Johnston —

On Monday 5th December Merrin School held its International Day. This day was organised by some of the International Students at Merrin School.

The day started with a Parade in which 47 different nationalities were represented. The children were dressed in their national costumes and walked behind the sign showing their nationality. It was very heartening to see the parents walking with their children.

The Senior Students then welcomed the parents and visitors in 4 different languages. The welcome ceremony concluded with the saying of the International Creed and the raising of the United Nations flag.

The welcome ceremony was followed by a shared meal for which the children brought food from their various different countries. The final event of the day was the International Concert where children performed dances and songs from their home country.

A special thanks goes to Senaya Senanayake, and her team of Senior students, who organised this very successful day for us!! Thank you also to all the parents who participated in our International Day.
