Kakariki Camp and More!
Our Year 7 and 8 students had a fantastic time at Kakariki Camp last week. Lots of exciting learning has been happening for our team!
Kakariki Camp
The varied activities included a stream study (fossicking for fresh water life), a forest sensory trail, weed eradication (Legacy Project), weaving garden beds, making hammocks, compass workshops, archery and air rifles. The following snippets capture some ‘magnified moments’.
Savannah - The Stream
The hasty flash of a brown slim shape speeds off, as soon as movement ripples through the water. I call my companion over, the satisfaction of chasing the shape ripples through my body. Surrounding the frightened fish, it slides under and goes into the void of the net. SWISH...glancing into the net, the slimy glistening fish flops around. We discharge it into a pure white capsule filled with transparent water. It’s like a colossal giant compared to the others...
Petra - Sensory Trail
My vision was gone. I could only see black. “Can you feel the rope? Good, now follow the rope,” Sophia and Isha yelled at me. “ WAIT, there’s a tree root, step over it.” Commands from my companions were flowing through my ears and entering my brain. “Hop over this log. Metaphor for Life
What can one carefully considered sentence reveal about our depth of thinking?
To reinforce our understanding of comparisons in writing, we explored metaphors and unpacked our thoughts related to 'life'. Each student created a thought-provoking metaphor for life sentence.
Robotics Club
On Wednesday, many Year 7 & 8 students attended Miss Wilson’s Robotics Club. The atmosphere was bustling with creativity, team work and intense concentration. Daniel made a special visit to be a Tuakana.
