Year 1 and 2 head to the Art Gallery.
The Year 1 and 2 classes enjoyed a visit to the Art Gallery during our first week back. Classes spent time walking around the gallery looking at artworks, followed up by a session in the art classroom.
Bianca hosted us for a session titled 'Māori Motif'. This art work features tukutuku (lattice work) and is traditionally woven into the interior walls of a whare nui (meeting house). Tukutuku are entirely the work of women and the designs hold significant stories of their place, people and history. Classes looked at a range of artworks that featured Māori motif and design. The children looked at common shapes and patterns and how they were used. In the Education Centre students used what they have learned to design and paint their own waka huia (treasure box). Thank you to our parent helpers!
