Term 1 Week 8 Notices

Tania Gallagher —

Week 7 has been busy and the children are still building on their knowledge and abilities in becoming a better learner.

We have talked a lot this week about our values and how we are seeing them develop in Pataitai Pod. Our new Values Nominations have been very well received and we will draw the first winners on Monday. These students will have their photo up in Pataitai beside the five values we have developed within the school. They are:

Whānaungatanga : Family Relationships - building bonds that connect us together

Manaakitanga : Heart - showing warmth, compassion

Ako : Powerful Learning

Kaitiakitanga : Guardianship - protection, care

Rangatiratanga : Leading with Mana

Remember to check in on Monday to see how the draw went. It would be great to talk to your child about these values and how they understand them.

Our Learning:

Reading: Comprehension continues to be the focus and will be across the year. It is important that your child is reading to someone everyday. Being read to also supports their enjoyment of reading.

Writing: We have been writing poems the last few weeks and next week we will begin to look at information reports. This is going to link in to our Big Idea.

Maths: In Prime Maths, we are continuing with addition and subtraction. To support this at home, your child can be working on addition and subtraction within IXL.

Digital Citizenship: This week spoke about what bullying and cyberbullying was. We discussed how to deal with it if it is happening to us so please ask your child what they have learned. Please also see the attached information for family regarding this topic.

Big Idea: We are still learning about the impact we have on our oceans and are starting to talk about what we can do to make a difference.

Tikanga Māori: We have learned new waiata and were introduced to a game that involves co-ordination. This will continue next week as well as beginning to work on our mihi.

Mandarin: The children began learning numbers to ten and the hand action that goes with it. Ask your child if they can remember how to count to 10.

Music: This week the children learned an Irish dance to celebrate St Patricks Day. Children are really enjoying learning about different cultures and celebrations through music with Angelique.

Physical Literacy: We are building up our fitness for the upcoming Cross Country in Week 9. We have been doing some running drills and circuits to build this fitness. Please remember that the children are required to bring their running shoes on Tuesday's for this.

Our upcoming events include:

Tuesday 21st March : CAT Maths Exams. Students and parents have been advised if they will be sitting this exam.

Friday 24th March :  The Pupil Council are holding a "Wacky Tacky Mufti Day" to raise funds for their Star Week at the end of the year. Students can come to school dressed in the most wacky tacky way they like. It is asked that you bring a gold coin donation for this.
