Term 2 Week 10

Tania Gallagher —

It was lovely to see you all at our Student Led Conferences and for you to see what your children have been learning. With only one week to go we still have some fun filled activities coming up.

What a busy week! We celebrated Matariki with lots of activities as well as a special Kapa Haka performance and Matatihi Show from the Court Theatre.

As a follow up from our Student Led Conferences, we have sent home the sheets they shared with you. These are a record of the two stars and a wish your child has come up with. Please reread these with your child so you know what their learning goal is.

A reminder that if you are late in the mornings, you will need to take your child to the office for a late slip. We start the day at 8.55am and take the roll at this time. Even if you are only 5 minutes late, you will need to go to the office. This will ensure that your child is marked on the roll as present and you won't get a call/text asking where your child is.

Next week we have even more events for you all to enjoy.

Hangi - We hope you have your tickets purchased as our Hangi is on Thursday 6th July. There are still a few tickets left to purchase - if you would like to part of this, please send your money to the office. On the day, we will be giving out the tickets to the children who have ordered a Hangi. We will also have some activities next week around what a Hangi is and the process they follow in cooking the Hangi. Parents are welcome to come in to see the process and at 1.30pm the Kapa Haka students will be performing while the Hangi is being lifted.

Thursday 6th July - Mufti day - Aotearoa theme

Reading - The children are focussing on determining importance in general and then on identifying topic sentences and the purpose of reading. Remember that all students have reading books that they have read at school and you should be listening to your child read for 20 minutes per day.

Writing - We have started a new piece of descriptive writing on a picture. This week it has been a 'Troll'. Next week we will continue with this piece of writing with the hope that they are published by Friday.

Maths - Please follow up the class learning with 30 minutes a week on IXL. This is part of our expectations on what you can be doing at home with your child.

Have a great weekend
