Creatives in Schools

Susan Perring —

Learning and creating continue!

A large part of the mural design process has been developing Whānaungatanga so that the art is truly collaborative. This opportunity has enabled reflection on what Merrin School Ngā Whetū Kohara means to individuals and the community as a whole. Students have expressed their understandings of our values and cultural narrative, and been able to portray these artistically.

Dr. Reuben Woods and Nick Lowry have encouraged everyone in this process. It has been a tremendous way of including The Arts at Merrin School. Our hope is that those involved will be tuakanas and use their skills to teach. As exposure to new ways of learning and creating develop, it is hoped that a solid foundation for understanding art has begun (or continued to develop).

We are heading into the final stages... Bring on the paint and large images!

We are very grateful for the support of parents and staff to enable this project to happen and look forward to its completion.
