Merrin Memories - Loretta

My Merrin Memories

I don’t really remember my first few years at Merrin, but I do remember that my first proper classroom was Room 2, and my first teacher was Mrs Perring, who I still consider to be one of the best teachers I have. Again, I don’t remember much from Years 3-4 and 5-6, but one thing I do remember vividly is in Year 6, we went on camp to blue skies, and that was very fun. I was in a cabin with all of my past friends, and did loads of fun activities, such as orienteering, rock climbing, and raft-building! We also went kayaking, and I fell in the river three times! Another fun camp experience was this year, when we went to Living Springs Camp, and I got to try archery, which was very fun! There was also tree climbing, and a game of Spotlight in the evening!

Heroes

I would say my main inspiration throughout my time at Merrin would be my friends, because they always support me, and help encourage me. I enjoy spending time with all my friends, and I hope they feel the same. I haven’t always had the same friend group through Merrin though, the first few friends I made in year one, and on my first day moved to another country, and some of them are still here, but we aren’t as close as before. Some of my friends I have only met this year, or even this term! I also have some friends who I am still close with that have gone to intermediate, or have already gone to high school, so I will get to see more of them in person next year. I told Emma Sanders about writing this paragraph about my friends, to which she said;” I’m a hero? Well obviously! I’m awesome!” As well as Emma, some good friends I have known before this year, or just met recently are: Maggie, Ling Fei, AJ, Bella, Valentina, Helena, Charlotte Li, Megan H, Penelope, and others who I won’t add, or else this paragraph will get too long! My friends are the best.

My Jams

My favourite songs change a lot, but I would say that Treehouse, by Alex G is one of my favourites, because I like the tune, and the soft quiet way the lyrics blend into each other. Another of my ‘jams’ is a song called My Shot, from a musical called Hamilton. It is a rap song, I really like the rhythm of it, and it hypes me up. My ‘theme songs’ would be the Undertale soundtrack, specifically 068 Death By Glamour, 046 Spear Of Justice, 098 Battle Against A True Hero, 076/077 Bergentrückung/ASGORE, and 058 Fallen Down (Reprise), because the first four are very upbeat, and dramatic, whereas the last one is relaxing and calm, and I can also play it on piano.

My Ultimate Future Self

In maybe the next 5 years, I will be leaving High School, hopefully with lots of wonderful memories about all the fun times shared with friends there. After High School, I will be going to a University somewhere hopefully, studying about editing stories, writing, or music maybe, unless my interests change between now and then. In the next 10ish years I will be 22, hopefully in a good career, and living by myself, or with a friend. I also would be hoping to travel to the UK sometime then, to visit new places, and meet new people, and learn new things! And in the next 50+ years? I have absolutely no idea. I just hope to be someone my current self would be able to look up to, and be inspired by.

My Favourite Quote

“You didn’t get this far by giving up, did you?”

I like this quote because it asks you that even though things can be difficult, you didn’t give up. It is a reassurance that even though life might be hard, you still have kept going, fighting through another day. That you have made accomplishments and have succeeded, even though it might have come at a cost, that even though there might be shadows, suffocating you in darkness, that just means there is an even brighter sun waiting for you on the other side, and has been there all along.

My Wrap-Up

Overall, I think I have had a lot of fun at Merrin, with good memories, and I’ve learnt lots of new things, and taught some things as well. The teachers I have had have all been kind, encouraging and supportive, helping me flourish and grow under their guidance. But, it’s not just the teachers that have helped me throughout my journey at Merrin. My friends have been awesome and really fun to be around, both inside of school and out, helping me with my learning, and yes, sometimes distracting me from the task at hand. At Merrin, I have been involved in lots of fun activities, such as: Choir/Chorale, Wet Day Monitoring, Eco-Swap, the Kaitiakitanga Values Team, Reading Fairies, and helping out with jobs and running activities. School has been a really cool space for me for the past eight years, and I am looking forward to learning even more at Burnside next year.
