Our Learning

Writing

This week we worked on food from their country of choice. Next week we will continue this and begin looking at attractions in their country. We will be researching this through the Lonely Planet website. Feel free to discuss this with your child over the weekend.

Reading

This week in reading we have been reviewing the comprehension strategies which we covered previously over the year. These included making personal and text based connections to our reading, questioning the text before during and after reading and inferential understanding within the text.  Alongside these more substantial comprehension strategies students fix-up strategies in reference to decoding are regularly targeted according to your child's needs.

At this age, reading to your child can tend to drop of as a habit, as your child develops their fluency. It is still however very beneficial for children of this age to be read to by an adult regularly. It is a chance for them to explore more complex text without the worry of decoding. It also allows them an opportunity to discuss a text with a fluent reader and their thoughts and feelings on it. If your child insists on reading by themselves another way to encourage discussion is to parallel read with them. Read the same text as them at the same pace, stopping along the way to have discussions.

Maths

Ms Gallagher's Maths Group - This group will be moving on from mass to multiplication next week.

Miss Hebberd's Maths Group - This group will be moving from mass to comparing numbers and subtraction.

Ms Mansfield's Maths Group - This group is continuing their work on division.

You can support your child at home in this learning by encouraging them to continue their learning through IXL. They can also be working on their basic facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).

Digital Citizenship

This week we looked at how advertising can target children and make children want to buy their product. Please see the attached information.
