Pataitai Pod Term 2 Week 7

Hannah Minty —

It is better to know how to learn than to know - Dr Suess

Dates to remember:

This week we are celebrating Matariki. We will be working alongside buddy classes in the Junior School to explore Matariki.

Onesie Day: The Pupil Council have organised a Onesie Day on Thursday 16th June to support DARE. This is a programme which is run in Year 7 & 8 to support children reach their full potential.

Our Learning

Reading - Continuing with our focus on comprehension across a range of texts. Keep reading at home with your child and ask them questions about the story.

Writing - This week we are beginning to write Speeches and Plays. This leads on from our previous Writing Genre, Expositions. Students are learning to write texts to persuade others. The topics are: 'Caged or Free - should animals be kept in zoos?' and 'Do video games promote violence?'

Maths - Over the next 4 weeks we will be covering Measurement as a part of Strand. All children will be exploring length, area and angle. To support your child at home you can be working through Year 4 Measurement (O.1 - O.13).

Big Idea - Our Past, Present and Future.  During the week will be reflecting on our visit to Ferrymead. We have started a knowledge building wall to share our learning and questions. Students will begin their own inquiry to research an area of passion.

Dance - Our dance unit is around Matariki and the children will eventually create their own dance routine to tell a story.

Digital Citizenship - We are learning to be good Digital Citizens. Ask your child what they have been learning.

Have a great week,

Nicky, Hannah and Tania
