Merrin Memories - Nayun
My Merrin Memories
I have been in Merrin School; Nga Whetu Kohara for nearly one and a half years. I had lots of good experiences in Merrin and made many amazing memories and friends.
My Heroes
My first hero is my parents in Korea. My parents supported me a lot and they gave me a chance to study in a better country and learn new cultures of New Zealand. They made a decision to send me here to New Zealand because they want to do all the things I told them about what I asked them to do and what me and my sister want. Honestly, when I think about the country of New Zealand, I can think of good friends, school, people, and nature even if something bad happens. So I am always thankful and respect my parents.
My Second hero is my grandparents because they believe in me for coming here to New Zealand and they always give me love and give me all the good things they have, good advice for life with what they experienced before. When I go to see my grandparents they always talk a lot with me and sometimes they teach me skills for knitting and how to play Korean adult games. My grandparents are always saying “You are the best Nayun, be kind to everyone, and always be humble”. They are my biggest supporters and are where my confidence and kindness come from. All the things they gave me and did to me makes me think they are my hero in my life.
My Third hero is my third host family. I had three host families this year and the third host family is the best host family and they actually have “Juung(정)”. “Juung” is a Korean word and apparently that means respect, believing in each other, and the feeling of wanting to give people good things and share lots of “Juung”. Anyway, I felt so hard and bad when I was at the first and second homestays. But in the third homestay, my host mum, host dad, and host sister were so kind to me and I could feel their “Juung”. Also, my host parents took me and my host sister to the good places in Christchurch and gave me lots of advice for my future. I feel they are real adults.
My Ultimate Future Self
I don’t know what I really like and what I really want to do in the future, but after 5 years my math skills are going to be better, I’ll be the best singer, I’ll be famous, and the final wish is to come back to New Zealand and try my best to go to catch up with my friends. Also, I want to start to make my own great career.
After 10 years, I’ll be 23 years old and I could be someone’s mum, a career woman, or a student of a University. But I hope 23-year-old Nayun has the goal for my life, to have my own visions, think deeper, and have friends with who I really like and who I actually believe.
After 50 years, I’ll be 63 years old. I can’t imagine how I am going to change and what I will look like.
