Term 3 Week 3

Nicky Hebberd —

The students are settling back into routine and we have had some awesome research happening for our Ako Bases this week.

Kia ora whānau,

The students are really enjoying our literacy programme and there is a lot of excitement around our Ako Bases. We are encouraging them to do a lot of research for ideas before they decide on a product to make. We do want to encourage them to down size on some of their ideas as they need to be cost effective and achievable to make.

This week in Reading each group has been discussing the reading strategy of Evaluation - making a judgement based on evidence from the text. This strategy requires the reader to use both inferential understanding alongside re-organisation of ideas and facts. Often Evaluation questions require a "yes" or "no" answer followed up by justification of the thinking but comes in other forms as well. Evaluation requires readers to be able to distinguish between a fact and an opinion in order for the reader to give their opinion supported by facts.

We will continue to focus on this strategy, alongside some text specific ones, for the next few weeks.

In Music, we have been learning how to play the ukulele. So far, we have learnt C and F chords.

See the attached photos and videos of Otakaro during Music.

Reminders:

- Please remind your child to bring their reading folder every day, they need these for reading, Library and for notices.

- Children need to be signed in and out of the office if they arrive late or leave early. We do the classroom roll call at 8:55am so if children arrive later than this they need to go to the office.

Have a great weekend.
