Up, up and away

Alice Harris —

Team 3/4 have been learning about flight during their Ako stations.

This started with some children interested in making paper planes and measuring how far they can go. We thought that by making adjustments to the nose of the plane and making them slimmer would help.  We tested these out and measured the distance with some going as far as 13 metres!!!

We also learnt how to make paper helicopters. It was lots of fun climbing to the top of the spider web and watching the propellers spin. This got our brains thinking about how planes fly so we have been researching about the different forces.

"I enjoy making the helicopters because they are challenging" Ryan T

" We added extra leaves to the helicopter's propellers and it made it go faster because it made them longer" Zong Heng

"The four forces are drag, lift, thrust and weight. They help the plane to fly" Tyler R

"I enjoy flying the helicopters off the top of the spider web and racing them against James' helicopter" Isaac

"The helicopters stay in the air longer than the paper planes because they have propellers' Dresden
