NW Zone Swimming Competition 🏆
The North West Zone held their swimming competition on Tuesday 13th March and the best swimmers from Merrin School were making a splash!
Merrin School had a team of 29 children competing at the North West Zone Swimming Competition. With Jellie Park currently under renovation the event was held at the Wharenui Swimming complex.
We are very lucky that our Head of Sport, Matua Peri, spent many years swimming competitively and very generously gave up any hope of a sleep in to meet the team at Jellie Park two mornings a week and help put the finishing touches on our dives, tumble turns and finishes.
Congratulations to all our competitors. It was a pleasure to watch all you compete to such a high standard, those early mornings were definitely worth it!
The following children placed in their events and will be off to the CPSS swim meet later this term to represent Merrin School and the North West Zone.
- WooJin - 1st Year 8 Boy 50m Breaststroke; 1st Year 8 Boy 50m Backstroke
- Jack G - 3rd Year 8 Boy 50m Freestyle
- Katy M - 3rd Year 8 Girl 50m Breaststroke
- Juliet - 2nd Year 7 Girl 50m Breaststroke
- SooMin - 3rd Year 5 Boy 50m Breaststroke

We are very proud to announce that this is the biggest squad yet that Merrin School has sent to this event.
A special mention also to Nicole, Hannah, and Tillie, Cooper S, and Alex G, these competitors narrowly missed out on a place in the CPSS event, in some cases by just 0.2 of a second.
Thank you to all the parents who helped with transport to and from the event and supported the children in their training.
