Turbo Touch with Touch Canterbury

Teresa Garratt —

The Year 3-4 children are enjoying learning new 'touch rugby skills' on Thursdays.

Every Thursday for the rest of the term, the children are having a half an hour session with Logan who is teaching touch rugby skills.   Turbo touch is an abbreviated version of touch, with an exciting edge, as it incorporates elements from other sports like netball and basketball, whilst keeping the essence of touch.

The program is structured as follows;

Week 1. A brief Introduction to turbo touch, including fun games and skills and drills whichfocus on the basics needed to play the sport.Week 2. Focusing on the catching and passing methods used in turbo touch using funinclusive games.Week 3. Introduction to tactical awareness as well as evasion and pursuit games.Week 4. Games of turbo touch with simplified rules dependent on skill levels.Week 5. Intra-school turbo touch competition (dependent on class availability).

"We ran and passed the ball to each other and practiced holding the ball without dropping it.  Also Logan was an encouraging person who encouraged us to learn how to play Turbo Touch.  We want to see him again at Merrin School." (Riley Room 22).

"We got to do lots of passing to each other." (Jacob Room 22)

Iosua (Room 22) enjoyed tapping the ball and running to get a try.

Tyler A (Room 22) liked running and passing the ball, practising the catching and throwing.
