Week 1, Term 4

Nicky Hebberd —

We hope you have all had a great two weeks and the children are refreshed for the new term... it is going to be a big one!

Term 4 is going to be busy with many exciting learning opportunities happening.

In the classroom:

Writing - This term we are starting with writing narratives. It will be a nice change from the scientific process last term.

Reading - Our reading focus continues to be their comprehension. As they become more fluent readers, the children have to work on understanding what they read. Please continue to read with your child each night and ask them questions about the text.

Maths - For the first few weeks of term, we will be working on volume and capacity. After that we will move back into number strategies. Please encourage your child to be working on volume and capacity on IXL.

Physical Literacy - We will be aiming to do as many athletics practices as possible. Children will need to bring their sports uniform and shoes every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Art - This term we are going to learn how to do print making. They will be designing and making a print that they can use with crayon and ink.

A few reminders:

- It is going to be warming up so children will need their Summer uniform. We also recommend children start putting on sunscreen before school.

- All children need to be wearing a school hat when outside. This is compulsory for all of Term 4.

Key Dates:

Thursday 13 October

- Mihi Whakatau at 10am. Anyone is welcome to attend this in the hall.

- Athletics sprints are also happening on Thursday after lunch. Year 4 will be competing in these heats but will take part in the other athletics events at a different date.

Week 2 - Middle Stars will be doing a Food For Thought Programme over a few sessions

Week 3/4 - Middle Stars will be visiting the Art Gallery in Whānau Groups
