Introducing our 2018 Wet Day Monitors

Lisa Barr —

The past week's stormy weather has had our wet day monitors at full duty! 🌧

One of the many responsibilities and opportunities that arise in the seniors is to become a wet day monitor. When the weather decides to "cry" - quoted by Penny and Katy, senior students relieve the teachers to supervise their class during break times.

Here is what our senior students say about being a wet day monitor:

Penny - "I like to show Whanaungatanga as a wet day monitor by making sure the year 3 and 4 children have fun during their break times. We like to give them choices of watching a movie in one room or colouring and playing games together".

Katy - "I love to show Whanaungatanga and Manaakitanga by looking after the children in year 3 and 4".

Caitlin - "I enjoy hanging out with the children in Room 22. They treat me with respect like they would treat their teacher. I think that's really cool. I've made some positive relationships with the younger children of Merrin School. Our favourite part is when we play "Go Noodle". We think this is important because they can release their energy, laugh and have fun!"

Marcus - "Well I think it's pretty fun because I get to know other people in the school. I like to help out in Room 5 by creating games, being kind and being a role model for these children to look up to".

Cooper - "I like being a wet day monitor for Room 5. It's fun and rewarding helping the younger children. Yesterday the children were standing in a row, one accidentally fell over and it created a domino effect. It was cool to share a funny moment with them".

Jack - "It is a great way to show our Merrin School values, particularly Rangitaratanga. I am able to demonstrate to the year 5 and 6 children how to behave during inside break times".
