Mahuta communication and dates for Week 3

Laura Della Bosca —

As the end of Week 2 draws to a close the weeks continue to be busy, with lots of exciting things happening! It has been a big last two weeks for our tamariki with swimming and we hope they have a good rest over the weekend.

Swim Safety - By Ryan S and Cooper O

Over the last two weeks we have been going swimming. In the first week we worked on our technique, we also worked on freestyle, backstroke and streamline. In the second week we did water safety. Some of the things included learning how to get off a boat safely and how to get under a boat safely.  We learnt that you should stay on your back when you are wearing a life jacket to kick because if you were on your front you would have your face in the water. On the last day we learnt how to take your clothes off in the water and how to stay safe in currents. Overall we all had a great time  and we hope to do it again.

Writing pieces about swimming

As I hopped in the ice cold water I shivered. I slowly started swimming progressively getting faster.  - By Marcus and Tani

The rapid tornadoes blew me away. My hand cut through the water life a knife making only a tiny sound. The water was cold making me shiver, rapidly gliding like an eagle. - By Felix C and Jiho

Problem solving in Maths by Seika and Ness

This week we have been doing problem solving in the morning with a buddy, we did a rice chess board which is a chess board that has one grain on the first square, two grains on the second square, four grains on the third square, and so on. We have been doing this to teach us to work as a team. These problems take us a day or more.
