Welcome Back for Term 2!
We hope you have all had a lovely break and are ready for Term 2. We are excited to see you all back again on Monday.
These are some of the things happening in the Pataitai Pod this term.
Maths
- Addition and Subtraction based strategies
- Maths Goals
- Learning to use Thinkboards to show our thinking
- IXL
To support learning at home, we would like children to be working on the addition and subtraction sections on IXL. Please make sure that children sign into their IXL so that it keeps a record of the work they complete.
Reading
- Reading a range of texts
- Building on comprehension of what they read
To support learning at home, we would like students to be reading their books/journals each day. It is important to ask them questions about the story. E.g. Can you retell the story? Where was this story set? Who are the main characters?
Books are given out on a Monday and need to be at school each day for group work. Please make sure they are in their Reading/Library Folders.
Writing
- Expositions (Writing about their opinion on a topic)
- Justifying their opinions
This leads into writing speeches later in the term.
Other topic areas that we will be working on:
Big Idea/Inquiry - Past, Present and Future
The Arts - Dance
Physical Literacy - Sports specific skills
Digital Citizenship - Setting up learning blogs and working on being a good digital citizen
Matariki - We will be doing some activities throughout the term to celebrate Matariki
Chinese - Working with Sophie each week
Action Stations - We are looking forward to the children working on our new Action Stations activities. These cover a range of areas including literacy, numeracy, cultural celebrations, our Big Idea and many other things that we are learning about this term. We don't want to give too much away!
Week 1:
Monday - Kia Toa Resilience Show
Friday - Mihi Whakatau and Rugby Fun Day (for selected students)
A few final reminders:
- Children don't need to bring sun hats this term.
- It is getting colder now and our doors do not open until 8.30am. Children shouldn't be at school before 8.30am unless they are at Caspa.
- Children shouldn't be using their devices before/after school while they are waiting outside.
- Home learning expectations are that children are doing IXL and reading daily. Te Kotiritiri Challenges are encouraged and we are happy to see their progress at any time in the term.
Have a great weekend! We will see you all on Monday.
