Busy term in the B.A.T Cave

Amanda Simpson —

We have a great time in the B.A.T Cave this term with lots of activities on.

Makerspace came to Merrin this term with different activities held every week.  We made origami animals and dinosaurs that the kids perfected and then left me behind making complicated, stunning creations.  We introduced a new building product called Trigo which looked easy but really wasn't.  It took lots of concentration and many tries but the results were incredible.

Lastly we made paper planes.  We researched what made a paper plane fly, what made it fly better than others and what properties they needed to make them the best.  After much trial and error, the day arrived and the planes were made. They had 20 minutes to make the best, faster and most impressive planes they could.  It was then to the back field and flying time.  The Christchurch weather prevailed and we had a perfect day for flying.  The planes were wonderful and their length of flight impressive but it was the enthusiasm and effort that surpassed it all.

More is planned for next term and I hope to see everyone back enjoying new activities in the lunchtimes.
