MATATIHI : Maia’s journey of bravery

Tania Gallagher —

Whāia te iti kahurangi ki te tūohu koe me he maunga teitei. Follow the little blue bow to you as a high mountains.

This week for Matariki, the whole school was very lucky to have a performance from the Court Theatre. Matatihi- Maia’s journey of bravery exposed the  children to stories and characters routed in the Canterbury rohe. The story of Maia took the  audience on a journey to discover Te waka o Aoraki; local mountains, lakes, pounamu and legendary creatures. The show inspired us all to be bold, to be proud of what makes us different and to carve our own path in the world. Matatihi- Maia’s journey of bravery was an action-packed and fierce story of bravery told through live music, puppetry, kapahaka, song, story-telling and te reo Māori language.

All the children thoroughly enjoyed the show, particularly the phenomenal props, waiata and audience engagement.
